ASSESSMENT OF PROXIMATE AND HEAVY METAL CONCENTRATION OF METHANOLIC LEAF EXTRACT OF MITRACARPUSHIRTUS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the proximate composition and heavy metal concentrations in the methanolic leaf extract of Mitracarpushirtus, a medicinal plant with significant ethnobotanical uses. Standard analytical methods were employed to perform these assessments, ensuring accuracy and reliability. The Proximate analysis revealed the following; moisture content (10.05±0.03%), ash content (27.16±0.03%), crude fibre (8.33±0.02%), crude fat (1.78±0.02%), crude protein (10.03±0.15%), total carbohydrate (20.95±0.02%), and caloric value (21.7±0.25 Kcal) of the extract. These parameters are essential in assessing the nutritional profile and potential health benefits of the plant. Furthermore, the concentrations of heavy metals, revealed, Lead (1.069±0.06 mg/kg), cobalt (0.075±0.05 mg/kg), Mercury (
