ABSTRACT
Development, Importance, and Challenges of Islamic Da'wah Using Social Media: A Case Study in Kano State.
This study investigates the development, importance, and challenges of Islamic Da'wah (propagation) utilizing social media platforms within the specific socio-cultural context of Kano State, Nigeria. As digital technologies increasingly permeate daily life, their impact on religious practices, including Da'wah, necessitates critical examination. This research aims to explore how social media has transformed traditional Da'wah methodologies in Kano, a region with a strong Islamic heritage and significant online presence.
The study adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques. Qualitative data, gathered through an online questionnaire with prominent Da'wah practitioners, religious scholars, and active social media users, will explore the evolving strategies, content creation, and engagement patterns employed in online Da'wah. Furthermore, content analysis of popular Islamic social media pages and groups will reveal the thematic focus, dissemination methods, and audience reception of online Da'wah materials. Quantitative data, collected through surveys distributed to a representative sample of social media users in Kano, will assess the reach, impact, and perceived effectiveness of online Da'wah.
This research will analyze the multifaceted importance of social media in facilitating Islamic Da'wah, including its capacity to: enhance accessibility to religious teachings, reach a wider audience, foster interactive dialogue, and provide platforms for addressing contemporary socio-religious issues. It will also explore the challenges associated with online Da'wah, such as: the proliferation of misinformation and extremist ideologies, the potential for misinterpretation of religious texts, the ethical considerations surrounding online discourse, and the digital divide that may limit access for certain segments of the population.
