AN APPRAISAL ON THE RIGHT OF THE CHILD TO EDUCATION IN NIGEIRA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The right to education is the bedrock of child development and a critical factor for societal and national progress. This right is one of the basic rights a child is entitled to by virtue of the provision of various international and national legal instruments spelt out in this research. However, despite the bountiful provisions of several laws on this right, there is still a large percentage of children that lack access to quality education in Nigeria. This study examines the status of a child’s right to education in Nigeria. It further analyzes the legal framework which includes various international conventions and domestic Nigerian legislations on this right. This study then explores the challenges faced in implementing this right; the analysis considers factors like poverty, geographical disparity and affordability among others. Finally, this study discusses potential solutions and recommendations for ensuring that every child in Nigeria has the opportunity to receive quality education.
