Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the impact of economic meltdowns on Office Technology Management (OTM) students in four selected tertiary institutions in Kwara State, Nigeria. It explores the interconnected challenges that these students face in terms of financial instability, academic struggles, and psychological stress during economic downturns. The research aims to assess how these economic crises affect tuition affordability, access to scholarships, and the overall quality of education, including resource shortages, outdated technology, and the retention of qualified instructors. Methodologically, the study employs a descriptive survey design, utilizing structured questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to collect both quantitative and qualitative data. The sample includes 200 OTM students, chosen from different institutions to ensure representativeness. The findings are expected to provide insights into the coping mechanisms employed by students and suggest strategies for educational institutions and policymakers to mitigate the effects of economic downturns on students. Furthermore, the study contributes to the existing literature on the socio-economic challenges faced by students in developing regions, particularly in the Nigerian context.
