INFLUENCE OF EGGSHELL ASH AND STONE POWDER ON GEOTECHNICAL PROPERTIES OF EXPANSIVE SOIL
Abstract
Lateritic soil is a soil layer that is rich in high iron content, derived from the weathering of rocks formed under high temperature and heavy rainfall conditions and having reddishto yellow color. It has been used extensively in road construction, backfilling, and foundation works. This study influence of Eggshell Ash and Stone powder on geotechnical property of expensive soil. The soil sample was tested through preliminary laboratory tests, Moisture content, Sieve analysis, Specific gravity, Atterberg limit test, Compaction, and California Bearing Ratio Tests. X-Ray Fluorescence was done on the soil to determine the chemical composition present and Eggshell Ash. Likewise X-Ray Diffraction to determine the amount of minerals present in the Eggshell Ash. The additives (Eggshell Ash and Stone powder) were combined in 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% respectively. From the results obtained, the natural soil was classified as A-2-7 of fair to poor plasticity. In addition, the maximum dry density, optimum moisture content as well as penetration increased with a corresponding increase in the percentage mixture of Eggshell Ash and Stone. The optimum results were however obtained at 10% Eggshell Ash and Stone powder mixture.
