ICT AND MANAGEMENT OF STUDENT'S RECORD IN ADAMAWA STATE UNIVERSITY, MUBI

ABSTRACT This study is an assessment of ICT and management of students’ records in Adamawa State University, Mubi. It was established that despite the global shift towards digital solutions, it was evidenced that a considerable number of higher institutions in Nigeria still rely on traditional methods of record-keeping, such as paper-based systems, which are prone to inefficiencies, inaccuracies, and data loss. The objectives of this study are examine ICT resources available for managing students’ academic records, ascertain whether the ICT resources are made adequate and accessible for managing students academic activities and identify the impact of integrating ICT gadgets in managing students’ academic records in Adamawa State University, Mubi. The study employed a descriptive research design. Data were collected through questionnaire as the instrument and administered to 259 respondents drawn up through Taro Yamane (1964) formula from a population of 927 staff of the University. Data collected were analyzed using SPSS and were presented using percentage analysis and inferentially, hypothesis was tested using correlation analysis. The study found out that the University has not provided fully functional internet access that supports effective academic records management activities, employees have limited access to necessary ICT tools for carrying out their duties, there are no adequate trained ICT personnel to support staff in managing student academic data, and power supply and backup systems are not sufficient to support uninterrupted ICT operations. The study recommended that the University management should prioritize investment in reliable internet connectivity, adequate power supply, and backup systems to ensure uninterrupted ICT operations, ICT facilities should be made accessible beyond regular working hours to allow for flexible and efficient academic records
