Abstract

The emergence of electronic resources (e-resources) has transformed the landscape of academic libraries by expanding access to information beyond the limitations of print collections. This study evaluates the impact of e-resources on library users at Osun State University, Osun State. Specifically, it investigates the extent of awareness, accessibility, usage patterns, and challenges associated with e-resources among students and academic staff. A survey research design was adopted, and data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to a purposive sample of 250 library users across the university’s campuses. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to analyze the responses. Findings revealed that a majority of respondents demonstrated high awareness and frequent use of e-resources, particularly e-journals and databases, for academic and research purposes. However, challenges such as unstable internet connectivity, limited user training, and subscription constraints hinder optimal utilization. The study concludes that e-resources significantly enhance learning, research productivity, and information access for users, but infrastructural and skill-related barriers must be addressed to maximize their benefits. It recommends increased investment in ICT infrastructure, regular user education programs, and enhanced subscription packages to strengthen the role of e-resources in supporting academic excellence at Osun State University.
