Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims at the factors affecting the teaching and learning of chemistry in senior secondary schools in Maiduguri, metropolis, Borno state. to achieve the purpose of the study four (4) objectives and four (4) research questions were raised and answered. the objectives were to; find out whether negative attitude of students towards learning chemistry affects their learning of chemistry in senior secondary schools in Maiduguri metropolis, Borno state find out whether unqualified teachers, affects the learning of chemistry in senior secondary schools in Maiduguri metropolis, Borno state, find out whether the lack of conducive classroom atmosphere affect teaching and learning in secondary schools in Maiduguri metropolis, Borno state. find out whether lack of modern laboratory apparatus, affect the teaching of chemistry in senior secondary schools in Maiduguri metropolis, Borno state. the study adopted a survey research design method while systematic sampling technique was also used and questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. thus 100 questionnaires were administered to the respondents, based on the results in this study the federal government should provide good chemistry equipment's, to enable better academic performance of students, to encourage parents and the community in supporting students' learning by attaining meetings (pta). teachers should develop good inter-relation skill with students, to enable effective performance.
