EFFECTS OF PEPPER FRUITS (DENNETTIA TRIPETALA) MEAL SUPPLEMENTATION ON PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF BROILER STARTER CHICKENS
Abstract
The present study was designed to assess the impact of dietary supplementation of pepper fruit (Dennettia tripetala) meal (PFM) on growth performance of broiler chickens. A total of one hundred and fifty (150) unsexed day old cobb 500 broiler chicks were used in 21 days experiment to determine the effect of varying levels of inclusion (0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00g/kg of feed) of pepper fruit meal (PFM) on the growth performance of broiler starter chickens. The basal diet were divided into five (5) equal portions and labelled diets 1 to 5. Diet 1 contained 0g/kg of pepper fruit meal (PFM) while diets 2 to 5 were supplemented with 0.25g/kg, 0.50g/kg, 0.75g/kg and 1.00g/kg of PFM respectively. The data collected were subjected to one–way analysis of variance in a completely randomized design. Results showed that broiler fed with 0.50g/kg of PFM had the best (P
