INFLUENCE OF DISCUSSION METHOD AND ICT RESOURCES IN TEACHING AND LEARNING OF ECONOMICS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN AWKA SOUTH LGA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigated the influence of discussion method and ICT resources on the teaching and learning of Economics in secondary schools in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The objectives of the study were to determine how the discussion method affects students’ understanding of Economics concepts and to examine the extent to which ICT resources enhance instructional delivery and learning outcomes. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and a structured questionnaire was used to collect data from Economics teachers and students in selected secondary schools. Mean ratings and standard deviation were used to analyze the research questions.
Findings revealed that the discussion method significantly improves students’ participation, critical thinking, and retention of Economics concepts. The study also found that ICT resources—such as projectors, computers, and internet-based tools—have a positive impact on the quality of teaching and learning, although inadequate ICT facilities and limited teacher training pose major challenges. Based on the findings, the study recommended increased provision of ICT resources, continuous teacher training, and the integration of student-centered teaching approaches to improve Economics education in secondary schools.
