Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examined the link between learning patterns and academic achievement of students in English Language, a case study of Akoko South-East. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The study population consisted of 200 students from five secondary schools across Akoko South-East, Ondo State, Nigeria. Questionnaire was the main instrument for data collection. It consisted of thirty (30) questions arranged in two sections. Simple percentage, mean, standard deviation, frequency count distribution and Correlational Method were used to analyse the data. Findings from the result of the first research question indicated that there is significant influence of learning pattern that exist among English Language students in Akoko South-East secondary schools. The result was in support of the research on influence of learning patterns among English Language students in Akoko South-East. This was however in line with what (Slater et al., 2007) says that students' learning pattern preferences include their classification and course level, environmental factors like school teaching methods and educational settings. Individual characteristics, past experiences, and ethnic background also affect students learning styles. Base on the findings from this research, students success in their academic pursuit is largely depend on their learning patterns as they can easily be motivated by their own chosen style of learning and the ability of such student to apply the chosen learning pattern in actualising their goals academically.
