Abstract

ABSTRACT The paper examined the phytochemical, antibacterial and Pesticidal activities of lime extracts, ginger, turmeric extracts and black pepper extracts. In the screening, we determined alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, glycosides, and reducing sugars but the abundance of the identified compounds was different among the various plants. Interestingly, the mixed-ethanol extract had better antibacterial effect as compared to the respective extracts like that of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Salmonella typhi, and Escherichia coli. Only moderate effects were seen with aqueous extracts. The MIC and MBC tests established that ethanol extracts were superior especially with regard to action against the pathogen S. pyogenes and S. typhi. Overall, we have shown that the plants can be used synergistically as natural antimicrobial agents and natural pesticides.
