Abstract

This study explored how artificial intelligence has affected copyright in Nigeria, it focused on both the opportunities and challenges that came in a swiftly changing digital environment. As AI systems played a greater role in creative activities and data management there were Copyright laws that faced important dilemmas regarding issues of originality, ownership, authorship, and infringement. The doctrinal approach was employed and the study evaluated the prevailing legal framework of copyright in Nigeria. It was noted that despite the time saving benefits offered by the beautifully curated ideas of artificial intelligence there were shortcomings such as referencing issues. Ultimately, it was found that AI had a tendency to promote laziness and inefficiencies doing more harm than good as it was observed to have exacerbated these issues. Additionally, this research work suggested potential measures and the need for a revised legal system that addressed the complexities brought about by Artificial Intelligence technologies. The research sought to create a balanced framework that encouraged innovation while safeguarding copyright amidst the advancements of artificial intelligence in Nigeria. Ultimately, this essay adds to the wider conversation on the relationship between technology and law, offering insights that can guide policy development and industry practices in an increasingly artificial intelligence-centric landscape.
