FACTORS INFLUENCING UTILIZATION OF POSTNATAL CARE SERVICES AMONG WOMEN OF CHILD BEARING AGE IN EGBEMA OZUBULU, EKWUSIGO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, ANAMBRA STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines the demographic characteristics and factors influencing the utilization of postnatal care services among women of childbearing age in Egbema Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Anambra State from 2018 to 2022. The demographic data reveals that the majority of women are in the 25-29 age group, married, have secondary education, are self-employed, belong to the Igbo ethnic group, and earn less than 30,000 Naira monthly. The study further explores the utilization of postnatal care services, finding an increasing trend over the years. However, the research identifies significant barriers to the utilization of these services, including financial constraints, cultural beliefs, and distance barriers. These factors, particularly financial constraints, consistently prevented a significant number of women from accessing postnatal care services. The findings align with existing research and underscore the need for targeted interventions to address these barriers and improve postnatal care utilization in the region.
