Abstract

Abstract Helminthic infections remain a significant health challenge in many developing countries, particularly among school-aged children. These infections, caused by parasitic worms such as Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, and hookworms, can lead to malnutrition, anemia, and poor academic performance. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of helminthic infections among school-aged children in Dala Local Government Area, Kano State, Nigeria. A cross-sectional study was conducted between November 2024 and January 2025 in five selected primary healthcare centers. A total of 140 children aged 6 to 12 years were randomly selected for stool sample analysis using direct wet mount and formol-ether concentration techniques. Ethical approval was obtained from relevant authorities. Surprisingly, the results indicated a 0% prevalence rate of helminthic infections, which contrasts with previous studies in similar regions. Possible explanations include seasonal variation, improved sanitation, and regular deworming programs. Despite these findings, further research is necessary to explore seasonal trends and confirm the absence of infection over time. This study highlights the potential effectiveness of ongoing public health interventions in reducing helminthic infections. However, continuous monitoring and preventive measures, including hygiene education and deworming campaigns, remain essential to sustain these improvements. The findings contribute valuable data for policymakers and healthcare providers to enhance disease control efforts in Nigeria and similar settings.
