Abstract

This study investigates the socio-economic determinants of anthropometric outcomes among school-going adolescent girls in Rimi Town, Katsina State, Nigeria. Employing a cross-sectional design, 120 participants were assessed for height, weight, BMI, and MUAC, alongside parental SES indicators such as education and employment. Results revealed significant variations in nutritional status across age groups, with low SES strongly correlated with undernutrition. Parental education and employment emerged as critical determinants of adolescents' health outcomes, underscoring the socio-economic challenges in the region. The findings emphasize the need for multi-sectoral interventions, including educational programs, economic empowerment initiatives, and school feeding schemes, to address the socio-economic and cultural barriers to optimal adolescent health. This study provides a foundation for evidence-based policymaking aimed at improving the well-being of adolescents in similar rural settings.
