PERSEA AMERICANA (MILL) SEED EXTRACT PROTECTS AGAINST IMMUNE COMPROMISE IN STREPTOZOTOCIN-INDUCED DIABETES IN WISTAR RATS.
Abstract
This study investigates the anti-diabetic and hematological effects of Persea americana seed extract in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic Wistar rats. The seeds were collected and extracted using ethanol. Sixty male Wistar rats were divided into 12 groups: control, non-induced treated groups (NIT50, NIT100, NIT150, NIT200), induced non-treated group (INT), induced treated groups (IT50, IT100, IT150, IT200, IT250), and a metformin-treated group (IMET). Diabetes was induced by STZ (60 mg/kg body weight). Treatment with ethanol extract (50–250 mg/kg) and metformin (20 mg/kg) was administered daily for 21 days. The rats' blood sugar levels, body weights, and hematological parameters were measured. Results showed a significant reduction (p
