Abstract

Traffic congestion is a major urban challenge affecting mobility, economic productivity, and environmental sustainability in rapidly growing cities. This study investigates urban planning solutions for mitigating traffic congestion in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. It adopts a mixed-methods research design, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative approaches to analyze the factors contributing to congestion and assess the effectiveness of existing urban planning strategies. A stratified random sampling technique ensured balanced representation across key urban zones, and data analysis employs statistical tools such as SPSS for quantitative insights and thematic analysis for qualitative findings. The findings, presented in the data analysis and discussion chapter, highlight congestion hotspots, peak traffic periods, and infrastructural inefficiencies contributing to Ado-Ekiti’s traffic problems. The study evaluates current traffic management measures and urban planning policies, identifying their strengths and limitations. The concluding chapter summarizes key findings, presents actionable recommendations for improving urban mobility, and suggests areas for further research.
