EFFECTS OF SOME HERBAL MIXTURES ON SOME HEMATOLOGICAL PARAMETERS OF ALLOXAN-INDUCED DIABETIC ALBINO WISTAR RATS
Abstract
This study investigated the effect of some herbal mixtures on some hematological parameters of alloxan-induced diabetic albino wistar rats. Twenty-four (24) albino wistar rats were divided into 6 groups of four rats each. Group 1 served as the normal control group, group 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 were induced with 150ml/kg body weight of alloxan. Group 3 (positive) control was treated with 50ml/kg body weight of metformin, group 4 was administered with 20% of 100ml/kg body weight of Dr. Iguedo Goko cleanser. Group 5 was administered with 20% of 100ml/kg body weight of Golden seed herbal mixture, group 6 was administered with 20% of 100ml/kg body weight of Goko cleanser and Golden seed in the ratio 50:50. After the treatment period of 21 days, blood samples were collected through cardiac puncture from each rat for hematological parameters. Hematological parameters were analyzed using an auto analyzer. Results showed a non-significant (P>0.05) decrease in red blood cells and hemoglobin in group 2, 3, and 6 when compared with group 1. Analysis of packed cell volume indicated a significant (P
