THE AVAILABILITY AND USAGE OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS IN TEACHING OF PHYSICS IN POST-BASIC SCHOOLS'STUDENTS OF KUMBOTSO LOCAL GOVERNMENT,KANO STATE

ABSTRACT The study assessed the Availability and Usage of Instructional Materials in Teaching of Physics in Senior Secondary Schools' Students of Kumbotso Local Government,Kano State.The objectives of the study were to Find out the available instructional materials used for teaching Physics in Senior Secondary Schools' Students in Kumbotso Local Government, Kano State,Investigate whether the instructional materials are adequate in teaching Physics in Senior Secondary Schools' Students, Investigate the effect of instructional materials on academic performance of physics students in Post-Basic schools in Kumbotso Local Government, Kano State. The instrument used for the study is 'Availability, Usage and Utilization of Instructional Material in Senior Secondary Schools Questionnaire', the validity and reliability of the instrument was obtained. The population of the study involved 2,798Students in Senior Secondary Schools' Students of Kumbotso and the sample size of the study was 346 Physics Subject Students in Post-Basic Schools of Kumbotso. The study found out that: The instructional materials used for teaching Physics in Post- Basic schools in Kumbotso Local Government, Kano State. Are not adequate, Adequacy the instructional materials used in teaching Physics Post- Basic schools in Kumbotso Local Government, Kano State.Are not adequate and Effect of instructional materials on academic performance of physics students,in Post- Basic schools in Kumbotso Local Government, Kano State.Are not adequate. The study recommended among others: The state government and owners of private secondary schools should make sure that there is an appropriate supply of modern and equipment instructional materials for the curriculum's successful implementation. For instance, in order to attain and guarantee quality teaching and learning in schools,appropriate instructional materials should be made available in all schools; these will also help improve student Performance at the Post-basic school level.
