Abstract

Malaria infection during pregnancy is a major r health problem in tropical region throughout the world. In most endemic areas of the world, pregnant women are the main adult risk group for malaria. Malaria during pregnancy has been most widely evaluated in southern part of Africa where 90% of the global malaria burden occurs (World Health Organization, 2019).The burden of malaria infection during pregnancy is caused by plasmodium falciparum, the most common and most dangerous malaria species in Africa. It is less clear every year at least 30 million pregnancies occur among women in malaria’s areas of Africa most of whom resided in Areas of relatively stable malaria transmission. (WHO, 2019). Malaria is an infectious disease that spread widely in a society due to the presence of parasite protozoa of the genus plasmodium within that tropical area, the causative agent of this parasite diseases was formally called march fever of the female anopheles mosquitoes, there are four species of the parasite that infect humans, which are: plasmodium falciparum, plasmodium vivax, plasmodium ovale, plasmodium malaria, it cause millions of death mostly in Africa. The risks factors of malaria among pregnant women are: lack of health education, lack of good environmental sanitation and illiteracy. The effect of malaria includes anemia, low birth weight, Miscarriage or abortion, Jaundice, convulsion, and vomiting. Malaria is the risk for pregnant women because of low body immunity to malaria, making her more susceptible to malaria infection and increasing the risk of illness, severe anemia and death for the unborn children, maternal malaria increases the risk of spontaneous abortion, still birth, premature delivery and low birth weight. Pregnant women who are known to be of the group with high risk of incidence of malaria infections especially protective measure to ensure their survival and improve birth outcome.
