Abstract

ABSTRACT Oxidative stress is a major contributing factor to the development of several chronic diseases due to the imbalance between reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidant defense systems. This study investigated the antioxidant properties of Moringa oleifera leaf extract on oxidative stress induced in albino rats. Fresh leaves of Moringa oleifera were collected, processed, and extracted using methanol. A total of twenty albino rats were divided into four groups: control, oxidative stress-induced, low-dose treatment, and high-dose treatment groups. Biochemical parameters including superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and malondialdehyde (MDA) were evaluated. Results revealed that administration of Moringa oleifera extract significantly increased SOD and CAT activities while reducing MDA levels compared to untreated groups. These findings indicate strong antioxidant activity. The study concludes that Moringa oleifera leaf extract has the potential to mitigate oxidative stress and could be useful in the management of oxidative stress-related diseases.
