POWER DYNAMIC AND POLITICAL CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA WITHIN A REVOLUTIONARY CONTEXT A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF FRANK OGBECHE'S HARVEST OF CORRUPTION
Abstract
This work investigates power dynamics and political corruption in Nigeria within a revolutionary context, a study of Frank Ogbeghe’s Harvest of Corruption. Political corruption in Nigerian society functions not only as a thematic concern in literature but also as a critical lens through which the interplay of power, morality, and revolutionary consciousness can be examined. The objective of this study is to analyze the representation of power, corrupt practices, and socio-political consequences in Harvest of Corruption. This study adopts a qualitative research design to explore and examine character interactions, plot development, and dramatic devices through a critical review of Ogbeghe’s text. Published articles, journals, internet sources, and textbooks were consulted, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of how Ogbeghe dramatizes systemic corruption and the manipulation of authority in Nigeria. The results show that the narrative and character dynamics in Harvest of Corruption are central to revealing the mechanisms of power abuse, the moral compromises of individuals, and the broader implications for societal justice and revolutionary action. The study concludes that Ogbeghe’s work underscores the significance of literary critique in exposing political corruption, fostering ethical reflection, and promoting civic engagement, thereby contributing to discourse on governance, social accountability, and revolutionary consciousness in Nigeria.
