IMPLICATION OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY ON NATURAL DEVELOPMENT IN AKOKO SOUTH WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ONDO STATE

The study investigated implications of cultural diversityon natural development in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State. The purpose of the study is to Find out the characteristic and elements of culture in Nigeria, Ascertain the wildness of cultural diversity among the people in Nigeria, Identify the Problems of cultural diversity among tongues and tribes in Nigeria, Explore the relevance of cultural diversity among the people in Nigeria,Seek out solutions to the problems of cultural diversity in Nigeria in Akoko South West Local Government of Ondo State. Five research questions were raised and formulated to guide the study. Several related literatures were reviewed. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population of this study comprise of all the public secondary schools in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State. Simple random sampling technique were used to randomly select two hundred (200)students from 10 school in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.Questionnaire was used for data collection. The data were collected and analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage. Findings of the study revealed that: Language barrier hinders socio-economic growth and development, Language barrier hinders the growth of diverse culture and development,Language barrier hinders inter and intra ethnic relationship among the people,Language barrier causes misunderstanding, discrimination and unhealthy rivalry, Language barrier causes favouritism and segregation in places of opportunity, Language barrier hinders social integration and nation building which the respondent agreed to in their responses in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State; Cultures and Languages destroys one another,Culture develops and builds individuals social life, Individual social background can either make them or mar them, Borrowed culture can destroy modernized culture in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State. Transmitted culture promote cultural diversity in our society,Ability to learn and speak other peoples language can promote cultural diversity, Cultural diversity encourages multiple and different culture in our societies in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations were made:Government should incorporate social integration into school curriculum so as to orientate the upcoming ones about cultural diversity in our society, environment, community,state and nation at large, Curriculum planners should incorporate ways and practice of life into the school curriculum, Parents and guidance should try to instill in their children the ways and practice of life for them to fit-in in the society.
