EFFECT OF BROODING METHOD ON POST-BROODING PERFORMANCE OF MARSHAL BROILER CHICKEN SUBJECTED TO RESTRICTED FEEDING REGIME
Abstract
Abstract
Feed restriction is one of the methods used in commercial treatment in poultry breeding industry to reduce the cost of production. This study was carried out to examine the post-brooding performance of Marshal broiler chickens reared under different brooding and restricted feeding method. Forty eight (48) four weeks old Marshal broilers were pre-raised at the Poultry Section of the Adekunle Ajasin University Teaching and Research Farm, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State under two different methods of brooding. They were randomly assigned to three treatments of feeding regimen of same quantity of feed; viz T1 (Control: was fed ad libitum); T2 (was fed twice daily at 8hours and 12hours) and T3 (was fed thrice daily at 8hours, 12hours and 16hours). The two brooding methods applied were heated (kerosene lantern) and heatless (no heat source). Analysis of data showed that average initial weight, average weight gain and average feed intake were significantly different across all treatments (p
