Abstract

Waterborne diseases remain a major public health concern in many developing countries, particularly in rural communities where environmental sanitation practices are often inadequate. Poor sanitation, improper waste disposal, contaminated water sources, and inadequate hygiene practices contribute significantly to the spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever, and diarrhea. This study aims to assess the impact of environmental sanitation practices on the prevention of waterborne diseases in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The specific objectives of the study include assessing the level of environmental sanitation practices among residents, determining the prevalence of waterborne diseases, identifying factors influencing sanitation practices, and examining the relationship between sanitation practices and the occurrence of waterborne diseases. A descriptive cross-sectional study design will be used for the research. The study population will consist of residents of selected communities in Ningi Local Government Area. A structured questionnaire will be used to collect data from respondents selected through appropriate sampling techniques. The data collected will be analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods, and the findings will be presented in tables and charts. The findings of this study are expected to provide useful information on the role of environmental sanitation in preventing waterborne diseases and may assist policymakers, health authorities, and community leaders in developing effective strategies to improve sanitation practices and reduce the burden of waterborne diseases in the study area.
