DESIGN AND SIMULATION OF A FRAUD APPLICATION DETECTION SOFTWARE AS LABORATORY ATTENDANCE (CASE STUDY: STUDENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE)
Abstract
Fraud is an important problem in a number of different fields. The economic impact can be substantial. The detection of fraud is therefore a worthwhile endeavor. However, in order to investigate, develop, test, evaluate, measure and improve fraud detection techniques there is a need for detailed information about the field the fraud targets and its peculiarities (Atoika, 2022). All these needs can be satisfied if we could find publicly available data of diverse financial transactions scenarios so that different approaches can be compared and contrasted. Unfortunately, for several reasons including confidentiality, protection of privacy, the law, internal policies and regulations it is hard if not impossible for an outside researcher to get access to such a data. Even with the access required to this kind of data it is often difficult to obtain data that represent diverse fraud scenarios where researchers can experiment different techniques and tune their parameters under a controlled environment (Awajan, 2022). As data relevant for computer security research often is sensitive for a multitude of reasons, i.e. financial, privacy related, legal, contractual and other, research has historically been hampered by this lack of publicly available relevant data sets. The aim of this study is to address this situation with the use of computer simulation (Dada, 2022).
Automated Attendance system is software tool that captures daily student attendance records in schools and institutions and facilitates access to the attendance of a particular student in a particular Laboratory and help in generating reports and evaluating the attendance eligibility of a student. Rather than signing an attendance sheet manually, the attendance records are captured electronically into a database which makes it easier manageable. The emergence of electronic paradigm for learning compared to traditional methods and availability of almost all information on the information superhighway(Internet), nowadays have caused students to be less motivated to come to the lecture rooms than ever before (Ayesa, 2022). Laziness on the part of students. Nonchalance to school work, extra social activities that have no importance in aiding the objectives of the institution and a lot more, may prevent students from attending lectures. Sequel to these, lecturers and administrators in most institutions of learning have had to come up with ways to ensure a healthy participation from students, and make sure that the student-lecturer interactive relationship is kept intact. An attendance management system is a cloud-based tech tool that enables organizations to automate their attendance management operations and keep track of student’s lecture hours. It either allows students to mark their attendance through its web or mobile app or integrates with the biometric attendance system to sync attendance entries automatically. Some attendance management systems do come with facial recognition technology that validates student identities whenever they check in or check out. These attendance entries are centralized in a single system and can be accessed by lecturer(s) from anywhere, at any time.
