Abstract

This study investigates the effect of Company Income Tax (CIT) on the financial performance of listed manufacturing companies in Nigeria. The research aims to determine how tax obligations influence profitability, investment decisions, and overall corporate performance. A quantitative research approach was adopted, using secondary data obtained from the financial statements of selected firms. Data analysis was carried out using regression techniques to examine the relationship between CIT and key performance indicators such as return on assets and profit margin. Findings reveal that Company Income Tax has a significant impact on the financial performance of manufacturing firms, with higher tax burdens reducing profitability. The study concludes that while taxation is essential for government revenue, excessive tax pressure may hinder business growth and performance.
