Abstract

Radio is one of the most accessible and influential media of communication in Nigeria. It plays an important role in informing, educating, and entertaining the public. In the area of tourism and culture, radio serves as a useful tool for creating awareness about tourist attractions, festivals, cultural events, and heritage resources. This study examines the role of radio in the promotion of tourism and culture in Osun State. The study investigates how radio stations in Osun State contribute to public awareness of tourism sites, traditional festivals, cultural values, and heritage preservation. Data for the study may be collected through questionnaires administered to listeners, as well as interviews with broadcasters and tourism stakeholders. The findings are expected to reveal that radio contributes significantly to the promotion of tourism and culture by publicizing tourist destinations, educating audiences about cultural practices, and encouraging participation in festivals and heritage activities. The study may also show that radio helps preserve indigenous culture by broadcasting programmes in local languages and discussing traditional values. The study concludes that radio is an effective medium for promoting tourism and culture in Osun State. It recommends increased cultural programming, stronger collaboration between radio stations and tourism agencies, and greater support for development oriented broadcasting.
