PLAGIARISM AWARENESS AMONG UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN AND KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY MOLETE KWARA STATE
Abstract
This study investigates the awareness and perception of plagiarism among undergraduate students at the University of Ilorin and Kwara State University, Molete, Kwara State. Utilizing a descriptive survey design, data were collected from a sample of 324 undergraduates across selected faculties. The findings reveal that while a majority of students are aware of what constitutes plagiarism, there remains a significant portion who lack comprehensive understanding, leading to unintentional academic dishonesty. Factors contributing to this include inadequate training on proper citation practices and the pervasive accessibility of digital information. The study underscores the necessity for enhanced educational initiatives focusing on academic integrity, including comprehensive workshops on plagiarism and the implementation of stringent institutional policies to deter such practices. By addressing these issues, higher education institutions can foster a culture of academic honesty and uphold the quality of scholarly work.
