ETHICAL LEADERSHIP AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA
Abstract
By implementing institutional reforms, establishing strong anti-corruption frameworks, promoting accountability, and embedding ethics into education, Nigeria can foster leaders who prioritize public service over personal gain. These pathways also empower civil society and encourage citizen participation, creating a responsive governance system that holds leaders accountable and ensures decisions reflect the people’s interests. Together, these strategies form the foundation for a future marked by transparency, integrity, and equitable progress—a vision of development that is both sustainable and rooted in ethical principles. Understanding these pathways is crucial, as they highlight the essential steps needed for achieving ethical leadership and sustainable development in Nigeria. Through institutional reforms, robust anti-corruption frameworks, enhanced accountability, ethical education, and empowered civic engagement, Nigeria can cultivate a culture of transparency and responsibility. These pathways address the underlying issues obstructing progress, ensuring that leaders act with integrity and that governance serves the public interest. Embracing these strategies is not only necessary for overcoming current challenges but also vital for building a foundation of ethical leadership that supports Nigeria’s future stability and prosperity.
