DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A MEDICAL DUTY SCHEDULING SYSTEM
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Efficient medical duty scheduling is crucial for ensuring the seamless delivery of healthcare services in hospitals and clinics. Traditional appointment management systems often lack automated duty scheduling for medical staff, leading to inefficiencies, overlapping appointments, and poor resource utilization. This research focuses on developing a Medical Duties Scheduling System that facilitates patient appointment booking while systematically scheduling duties for available medical staff. The Federal Polytechnic, Ede Medical Center currently faces challenges in managing patient appointments and staff duty scheduling. Manual scheduling methods result in inconsistencies, delays, and administrative burdens, making it difficult to effectively allocate medical personnel to patient appointments. Additionally, staff members lack a streamlined mechanism to accept or reject assigned duties, leading to scheduling conflicts and patient dissatisfaction. This research proposes a web-based Medical Duties Scheduling System that digitizes the scheduling of appointments and assigns available medical personnel. Patients can conveniently book appointments, and the system allocates medical staff accordingly. Medical personnel have the ability to accept or reject assigned duties, ensuring flexibility and proper workload distribution. The admin oversees scheduling, ensuring optimal staff allocation. The system is developed using PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, and Bootstrap, with XAMPP serving as the local development environment. The system enhances operational efficiency by reducing scheduling conflicts and administrative workload. It ensures equitable distribution of duties, allowing medical staff to manage their schedules effectively. Patients benefit from a streamlined booking process, reducing wait times and improving service delivery. The system also facilitates real-time monitoring and data management, providing an improved structure for healthcare services at Federal Polytechnic, Ede Medical Center.
