Abstract

This study examines the impact of employee motivation on organizational performance, with a specific focus on Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Alfonso, Shasha, Ibadan. Employee motivation has been widely recognized as a critical factor influencing productivity, efficiency, and overall organizational success. The study aims to investigate the relationship between motivational strategies and employee performance, as well as how these strategies contribute to the achievement of organizational goals. A descriptive research design was adopted for the study, and data were collected through the use of structured questionnaires administered to employees of IBEDC. The data obtained were analyzed using appropriate statistical tools such as percentages and correlation analysis. The findings revealed that both intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors including salary, job security, recognition, and opportunities for career advancement significantly influence employee performance. The study further established that motivated employees tend to exhibit higher levels of commitment, job satisfaction, and productivity, which in turn enhances organizational performance. However, inadequate motivation and poor welfare packages were identified as challenges affecting optimal performance among employees. Based on the findings, the study recommends that management of IBEDC should implement effective motivational policies, improve compensation packages, and create a supportive work environment to boost employee morale and productivity. The study concludes that employee motivation is a key driver of organizational performance and should be prioritized by organizations seeking sustainable growth and efficiency.
