Abstract
ABSTRACT
The Brazilian joy weed (Alternanthera brasiliana) has garnered attention in recent years for its potential therapeutic properties attributed to its rich phytochemical composition. This work investigated the quantitative composition of phytochemicals in Alternanthera brasiliana. These phytochemicals include Flavonoid, 85.29 g/100g, Saponin 400.00 g/100g, Tepernoid 0.32 mg/100g, Phenol 0.10 mg/g, Alkaloids 0.39 µg/g, Cardiac Glycosides 4.30 %, Tannins 20.95 %, Steroids 14.48 m g/100g, Hydrogen Cyanide 5.29 mg/kg, Oxalate, 450.00 g/100 g, Phytates, 0.28%. Brazilian joy weed leaf, through research has been found to be useful in pharmacology in the production of drugs. They can also serve as anti oxidant, anti inflammatory, antidiabetic and also have hypotensive effects. Brazilian joy weed leaf can be used traditionally for washing of kitchen utensils.
