Abstract

In contemporary society, safeguarding vehicles holds immense significance for individuals. With a rising number of vehicle thefts occurring daily in urban settings, the incorporation of a robust system to deter such incidents becomes imperative. Addressing this necessity, an efficient vehicle tracking system has been devised and implemented to monitor equipped vehicles' locations at all times, irrespective of their whereabouts. This system harnesses a widely adopted technology that integrates a smartphone application with a microcontroller. Installed within the vehicle, the onboard device operates by leveraging Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communication/General Packet Radio Service (GSM/GPRS) technologies, commonly utilized for vehicle tracking purposes. A microcontroller is tasked with overseeing the GPS and GSM/GPRS modules, with the former providing periodic geographic coordinates of the vehicle. Subsequently, the GSM/GPRS module transmits and updates the vehicle's location within a centralized database. Moreover, a specialized smartphone application has been developed to facilitate continuous monitoring of the vehicle's movements. Utilizing the Google Maps API, this application presents the vehicle's position on a map, enabling users to track its real-time progress and estimate the time and distance remaining until it reaches its designated destination.
