Abstract

This study investigated factors influencing antenatal care (ANC) utilization among women of childbearing age attending Sheikh Khalifa Isyaka Rabi'u Pediatric Hospital, Kano, Nigeria. A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was employed, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The results showed that 95% of respondents had heard about ANC services, but only 14% attended ANC services five or more times. Husband/family support (37%) and availability of health workers (25%) were key factors influencing ANC attendance. The study concludes that ANC utilization is influenced by socio-demographic, cultural, and health system-related factors. Recommendations include intensifying health education campaigns, encouraging male involvement, and strengthening healthcare infrastructure to improve ANC service quality.
