Abstract

Anxiety and depression are among the most common mental health problems affecting students in higher institutions. Undergraduate students often face academic pressure, financial difficulties, social adjustment challenges, and uncertainty about the future, all of which may contribute to psychological distress. This study examines the prevalence and associated factors of anxiety and depression among undergraduate students using statistical analysis. The study investigates the proportion of undergraduate students affected by anxiety and depression and identifies the major factors associated with these conditions. Data for the study may be collected through structured questionnaires administered to students using standard mental health assessment scales. Statistical tools such as frequency distribution, percentages, chi square tests, and regression analysis may be used to analyze the data. The findings are expected to reveal that a considerable proportion of undergraduate students experience symptoms of anxiety and depression. The study may also show that factors such as academic workload, financial stress, relationship issues, poor social support, and sleep disturbance are significantly associated with the occurrence of anxiety and depression. The study concludes that anxiety and depression are important mental health concerns among undergraduate students. It recommends early identification, counseling support, mental health awareness programmes, and institutional interventions to improve student wellbeing.
