PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND NUTRITIONAL COMPOSITION OF EDIBLE FRUIT GINGERBREAD DOUM PALM (PLANT)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The Doum Palm (Hyphaene thebaica) is a tropical fruit-bearing tree with edible fruit that has been
traditionally consumed in various parts of the world. This study aimed to investigate the
phytochemical and nutritional composition of the edible fruit of Doum Palm. Our results showed
that the fruit is rich in essential nutrients, including carbohydrates, proteins, and dietary fibers. The
fruit also contains a range of phytochemicals, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, and
carotenoids, which have been associated with various health benefits. The fruit's antioxidant
activity was also evaluated, and the results showed significant radical scavenging activity. The
findings of this study suggest that Doum Palm fruit is a nutritious and potentially valuable source
of phytochemicals and nutrients, making it a promising ingredient for food and pharmaceutical
applications
