DESIGN AND PRODUCTION OF RUG USING TUFTED WEAVING TECHNIQUE

ABSTRACT This study focuses on the design and production of a rug using the tufted weaving technique, a modern textile method widely used for creating decorative and functional floor coverings. The aim of the project is to explore the processes, materials, and techniques involved in tufted rug production while emphasizing creativity, durability, and aesthetic appeal. The study adopts a practical and experimental approach, involving the selection of appropriate yarns, backing materials, and tools such as the tufting gun, frame, and adhesive substances. The production process includes the development of design concepts, pattern transfer onto the backing fabric, yarn tufting, shearing, and finishing. Attention is given to factors such as color harmony, texture, pile height, and overall design quality. The study also examines the advantages of tufted rugs, including their cost-effectiveness, versatility in design, and faster production time compared to traditional hand-knotting techniques. Findings from the project reveal that tufted weaving technique allows for high levels of customization and efficiency while maintaining durability and comfort. The finished rug demonstrates both functional and decorative value, suitable for residential and commercial use. The study concludes that tufted rug production is a viable entrepreneurial venture, especially for small-scale textile producers, and recommends further exploration of innovative designs and sustainable materials in rug making.
