ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF MICROORGANISMS PRESENT IN URINE SAMPLES COLLECTED FROM STUDENTS OF OSUN STATE POLYTECHNIC, IREE
Abstract
In this present investigation, Streptococcus species and Staphylococcus aureus as well as Lactobacillus species where the bacteria isolated and identify from various urine sample collected from student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. The visual examination of various urine sample revealed that their colour was yellow, light yellow and deep yellow while the various urine sample produce offensive odors. Particles as well as sediment were present in the various urine samples. The physiochemical properties of the various urine samples revealed that the pH ranges between 6.0 and 6.5 while the total dissolved solid of the various urine sample ranges between 1535 – 3640 (ppm), the electrical conductivity of the various urine sample ranges between 0116 - 7867(us/cm). The biochemical characteristics of various urine sample revealed that they had a pH of 6.0 while the specific gravity of the various urine Sample ranges between 1.010 and 1.030 The various urine sample were blood negative bilirubin (negative), blood (negative), keytone (negative), glucose (negative), protein (negative), leukocytes (negative), nitate (negative). The heterotrophic bacteria count ranges between 40 x 10-1 – 180 x 10-1. The isolation of Streptococcus spp. and Staphylococcus aureus revealed that most of the patient are suffering from mild urethritis if their population goes up while the fungi isolated may not cause significant infection.
