IMPACT OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES ON ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE (A CASE STUDY OF ADELEKE UNIVERSITY EDE, OSUN STATE)
Abstract
This study investigated the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on organizational
performance in Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. The research sought to examine
how various dimensions of CSR such as employee welfare, environmental sustainability,
community development, and ethical responsibility contribute to the institution’s operational
efficiency and reputation. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design, and data were
collected through a structured questionnaire administered to 83 respondents, comprising
academic and non-academic staff of Adeleke University. Descriptive and inferential statistical
tools, including frequency distribution, percentage analysis, mean, standard deviation, and
multiple regression, were used to analyze the data. Findings revealed a positive but statistically
weak relationship between CSR initiatives and organizational performance. The regression
results indicated that CSR variables such as environmental and community commitments,
employee welfare, and ethical conduct had an insignificant predictive influence on
organizational performance (R = 0.073, R² = 0.005). Despite the low statistical significance, the
findings demonstrated that CSR still contributes directi onally to enhancing institutional
reputation, stakeholder satisfaction, and internal harmony. The study concludes that consistent
engagement in CSR practices can foster goodwill, improve staff morale, and strengthen the
university’s social image. It recommends that Adeleke University should expand its CSR efforts
in areas of community outreach, environmental awareness, and staff development. This research
contributes to CSR literature by providing empirical evidence from a private university context
in Nigeria, emphasizing the strategic importance of social responsibility in higher education
management.
