EGG QUALITY FACTORS OF LAYER CHICKENS FED THREE DIFFERENT COMMERCIAL FEEDS IN MAIDUGURI
Abstract
This study investigates egg quality characteristics of laying chickens fed different commercial poultry feeds in Maiduguri, 120 Isa Brown layer birds allocated into four treatment groups, each receiving a different diet. The study aimed to determine the nutrient composition of three different commercial feeds and assess their impact on egg quality parameters, including egg weight, albumen height, yolk index, and hen- day egg production. Proximate analysis of the feed samples was performed to determine dry matter, crude protein, crude fiber, ether extract, and metabolized energy content. The results were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Duncan’s multiple range test was employed for post hoc analysis. The findings of this study will provide insights into the nutritional quality of commercial poultry feeds and their influence on egg production, thus aiding poultry farmers in making informed decisions on feed selection to improve production efficiency and profitability.
