PRELIMINARY SCREENING OF STEM OF AZADIRACHTA INDICA A.JUSS (NEEM) FOR SAPONIN GLYCOSIDES
Abstract
Abstract
In this study, Preliminary Screening, Histochemical Analysis and Phytochemical Screening were conducted to determine the probable presence of saponin in the methanol extract of stem of Azadirachta indica A.Juss (Neem). The results revealed the probable absence of saponin glycoside and the presence of a few other secondary metabolites including flavonoids, carbohydrates, terpenoids and tanins. The yield of the extract obtained from the methanol extract of stem of Azadirachta indica A.Juss (Neem) was 23%. The implications of the presence of these secondary metabolites were discussed.
