VITAMIN, MINERAL COMPOSITION AND ANTI-OXIDANT PROPERTIES OF ETHANOL LEAF EXTRACT OF STONEBREAKER LEAVE
Abstract
This study investigates the vitamin and mineral composition and antioxidant activity of Phyllanthus niruri (Stonebreaker) leaves, a medicinal plant traditionally used in various cultures for health enhancement. Phytochemical analysis of the ethanolic extract revealed a rich presence of essential minerals, including calcium (527.50 mg/100g), potassium (94.90 mg/100g), and magnesium (114.80 mg/100g), which support vital physiological functions. Vitamins such as beta-carotene, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, and ascorbic acid (2.56 mg/100g) were detected, providing antioxidant and metabolic benefits. Antioxidant assays confirmed the plant's capability to scavenge free radicals, which are implicated in oxidative stress and degenerative diseases. The results suggest that P. niruri possesses potent health-enhancing properties, justifying its use as a functional food or dietary supplement for immune support, oxidative stress reduction, and chronic disease prevention. These findings advocate for further studies to validate its efficacy and potential therapeutic applications in clinical settings.
