PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF SOIL IN GARDENS AT BAYERO UNIVERSITY KANO, OLD SITE
Abstract
The different features of soil greatly affect the flora and vegetative diversity. The physical and chemical characteristics of soils in Bayero University were evaluated to assess the fertility and productivity status of the soils. Three soil samples collected from different sample locations were analyzed for soil texture (sand, silt and clay), soil organic matter and soil carbon, electrical conductivity, nitrogen, phosphorus, pH and moisture texture. Texturally, the studied soils were loamy sand and sandy loam with percentage of sands (87- 89 %), silts (5 - 7 %) and clay (5 -10 %). The soils had high total nitrogen (0.25%) and available phosphorus contents between 10.88 and 35.75mg/kg.
