Abstract

ABSTRACT This report contains a design and research development of the Harmony Public Park and Recreational Center in Inisa, Osun State, Nigeria. The project idea was created to fill the gap of quality open spaces whereby people can get to identify with their culture, recreation and environmental sustainability in the community. This design will be a mix of building and landscape designs to provide the multifunctional environment which allows social interaction, cultural expression, physical fitness and ecological balance. The adopted methodology involves literature review, site analysis, case studies of the Nigerian parks and conceptual development of the design through the aid of computer aided design tools. Sustainability, accessibility, safety, and inclusiveness are some of the main design factors, and the focus on the utilization of local materials and native plants to minimize maintenance costs and increase the connection to the culture should be considered. The project reflects the manner in which architecture and landscape design can be used to work together in promoting community building, improving wellbeing, and maintaining environmental integrity.
