Abstract

ABSTRACT The study determined the prevalence and types of soil-transmitted helminths in Community Igia Primary School. Thirty-two (32) soil samples were collected from the study area, and 32 samples were contaminated, which represents a 100% contamination rate. The samples were examined utilizing standard parasitological methods. Results showed the presence of four geohelminth species with a total of 678 which includes Hookworm Larvae 359(52.94%), Trichuris trichuria 38(5.60%), Strongeloides stercoralis 142(20.94%) and Ascaris lumbricoides 139(20.50%) respectively. The study revealed that the soil-transmitted helminths were prevalent in Community Igia Primary School, Oka-Akoko. Control measures such as sanitation, deworming, drug administration and health education should be introduced.
