JOURNALISTS’ PERCEPTIONS OF SOCIAL MEDIA AS AN INFORMATION SOURCE IN BORNO STATE
Abstract
This study investigates the role of social media as an information source among journalists in Borno State, Nigeria. It examines the frequency of use, perceived credibility, and ethical implications associated with social media in journalistic practice. Findings reveal that social media has significantly transformed news gathering and dissemination processes, with a high proportion of journalists relying on platforms such as Facebook for real-time information. Despite its advantages, concerns regarding misinformation and verification persist. The study underscores the importance of maintaining professional standards through fact-checking and ethical compliance in the use of social media.
