Abstract

ABSTRACT Driver drowsiness has been identified as one of the major causes of road accidents worldwide Research studies reveal that fatigue-related crashes often result in severe injuries and fatalities due to delayed driver response. This project focuses on the design and development of a Driver Drowsiness Detection System that can identify early signs of fatigue and provide timely alerts to prevent accidents. The system uses a camera module to capture real-time images of the driver's face. Through image processing techniques, particularly eye-blink detection and facial landmark analysis, the system determines whether the driver is drowsy. When drowsiness is detected, an alarm is activated to alert the driver, thereby minimizing the chances crash. This project combines both hardware and software components, including a mien-controller, camera module, buzzer, and Open CV libraries for image processing. The system was tested in simulated driving conditions and achieved satisfactory accuracy in detecting eye closure patterns and fatigue levels. The implementation of such systems is expected to significantly improve road safety by reducing the number of accidents caused by human fatigue.
