Abstract

ABSTRACT The proper structure of crude oil tank farms stands crucial for maintaining safe storage together with protection against environmental damage. The research adopts membrane theory to study crude oil storage tank behavior while examining structural stress distributions together with deformations that emerge within thin-walled systems. The research examines the relationship between internal pressure forces with hydrostatic pressure in conjunction with external loading scenarios affecting tank walls and roofs. The application of membrane theory helped identify tank failure patterns as well as stress distribution patterns that enhanced tank structural performance. The evaluation of storage tanks under changing operational conditions relied on analytical modeling together with numerical simulations. Two prominent areas of high stress manifestation emerge from the study results and these weak points exist between the tank shell base junction and shell roof junction. Engineers should use high-strength steel and fiber-reinforced polymers in conjunction for enhancing crude oil tank resilience according to this research's findings. The research findings advocate for a process that combines finite element analysis (FEA) with membrane theory for accurate stress assessment together with routine non-destructive testing methods for structural health monitoring. Crude oil tank farm reliability and their operational duration will increase alongside structural failure risks reduction through these recommended practices. The optimization of design parameters through membrane theory leads to improved safety efficiencies for crude oil storage facilities which promotes superior engineering practices in the oil and gas industry.
